Lego Star Wars -- A Decade of Entertainment!
The original Star Wars movie was released over 30 years ago (1977) and is still considered one of the all-time classic science fiction movies. Whether you have just recently discovered these epic movies, or you remember seeing that first Star Wars movie like it was yesterday, chances are that they made a lasting impression. Younger generations that watch the original three movies may not be impressed by the special effects, but they were groundbreaking at the time of each movie. The character development and interaction goes beyond what you will find any most, if not all, other science fiction movies. The Star Wars saga continues to evolve with the recent animated Clone Wars movie and television series, and Star Wars toys and models continue to evolve as well.
The Lego Star Wars line was introduced in 1999 when Legos signed an exclusive contract with LucasFilms. Lego has continued to expand on the Lego Star Wars line ever since, particularly when new episodes have been released. There are even Lego Star Wars characters and sets from the new Clone Wars animated movie and television series. Most of the characters you know from the films are available in their Lego form, and a majority of the ships and vehicles are available as well.
Lego Star Wars has become so popular that it has generated spin-offs including the Ultimate Collector Series. These are lego sets that are extremely complicated and detailed, and also cost a bit more than your standard lego set. The Ulitimate Collector Series version of the Millennium Falcon contains over 5,195 pieces and there is a Death Star set with over 3,800 pieces!
Lego Star Wars figures generally adhere to the Lego style – a square body and blocky head, but are distinguished by their color and accessories (capes, helmets and so on). However, some figures just won’t work with the standard Lego figure model, so custom molds were created for these characters. Yoda, Darth Vader and the Stormtrooper figures, among others are identifiable by their unique shapes. There are even lightsabers included with some of the characters! Almost all of the ships, vehicles and even bases and space stations are available as Lego Star Wars sets as well, including the Millennium Falcon, the TIE fighter, the X-Wing Fighter, the Death Star, the AT-AT walker, the Hoth Rebel Base and many more!
Lego has also produced a series of video and computer games based on Lego Star Wars. The Lego Star Wars video games have become a huge hit in the video game community, and have become as popular as the actual Lego ships and characters. If you love Star Wars and you love Legos, check out Lego Star Wars and stay tuned for more to come. Lego just extended their contract with LucasFilms through 2011.
